Today you had your six month's vaccination. You didn't cry because of the vaccination, but you cried because you got scared when your dad held your legs and mom held your hands and the nurse brought that box of syringes close to you. After we came out of that room, you were fine. You were very happy to play with that paper table cover which made the sound of paper. You tore that entire sheet, grabbed it, shook it, put it in your mouth, screamed out of joy, stamped it, hit it and then laughed. I had to apologize to the nurse for this who had already joined you in your joy and rolled out another long sheet on the table! So the entire check up went on with you totally lost in that torn table cover.
Of late you are not getting enough milk and you hate formula. You shout at me in your language if I bring formula close to you. And you are not big enough yet for drinking cow's milk! We have just started giving you solid food since you have now crossed your half birthday! We can only give you single grain cereals now or some vegetables or fruits - nicely cooked and mashed. You didn't like sweet potatoes, but you liked watermelon. Brown rice cereal is your favourite for now. You spray all the food from your mouth when you are full. So I give you a few spoons lesser to avoid the cleaning part. We give you cereal in the evening, so that you won't be very hungry at night. But that works only for next 2-3 hours and then you start waking up every one hour for milk. Since the milk is not sufficient these days, you wake up every 20 or 30 minutes for feeding. I have totally forgotten how it feels to sleep the entire night without any breaks. It sounds like a luxury I can't afford!
Let me go back to where I have stopped in my last blog. On 22nd of January, your Anvi akka had come home to play with you. She likes your name so much that, she wants to name her sister Aadya! She got disgusted when you put your hand in your mouth and then touched her face! You even made her cry recently by pulling her hair. Poor Anvi akka, she tries to be nice with you and you keep troubling her and scratching her face. Your nails grow quite sharp in no time!
In the beginning when you were not able to move, you started turning 360 degrees in the same place. It was fun to watch you turn round and round. But now, you know every corner of our house! You know the exact measurements of each room. You have not started crawling yet, but you keep rolling and reach the other end of the room in no time. In the mornings, your dad makes you sleep under your play gym. And within a few minutes if I peep from the kitchen to check on you, I find you either hitting your dad's shoes near the entrance of our house or under the dining table kicking the chair or near the TV, chewing its cables! You do all the possible mischief and I am sure of remembering it forever. You bite my hand when I give you bath and kick the mug when I bring water close to you!
You have learnt to pass objects from one hand to the other and now you like to sit all the time. You scratch everything that makes sound - from sofa cover to your own diaper. You sit without support for a few seconds and then fall when you try to reach for your toys. You hold both your legs in your hands all the time and since you were 5 months old, you have been putting your toes in your mouth. You like chewing your own toes and you even have the ability of rubbing your eyes with your toes! You hit and squeeze your dad and my faces all the time, if we come close to you. Though it hurts, we only take the love behind it.
On March 1st, you played this new game - reach, grab and pull the cranberry cover, hold it and then drop it on the floor. Mom picks it and keeps it back on the table and you reach for it, grab, pull, hold, drop and mom picks again and keeps on the table, you bend, reach, and it went on with a big smile on your face. On February 28th, you laughed aloud for the first time at the sound of zip. And that was too hilarious and adorable.
You fell sick twice in these two months. You had got bad cold, once accompanied with cough and slight fever. When you have cold, you can't drink milk, you are not comfortable breathing with your mouth and you kept crying all though the night for a few days. We tried all the possible home remedies on you since there is no medication for the babies under the age of 6 months. We kept sucking your nose with bulb syringe the entire day. As per internet instructions, I prepared saline, put it in your nose and sucked the mucous out. It was your dad's idea to put 'Vicks' in the boiling water and keep it in the room. It was my idea to take you over the steam. Chaithra atthe's idea to give dry ginger mixed with milk. Your mom's granny told to keep 'sambrani' on stove, squeeze out its juice and give you. Your Dhaval uncle and Manali aunty told to heat the 'paan' leaves on a frying pan and keep them on your chest. We tried all of them, but cold took its own time to go away. How else do you think your mom has come back to her pre-pregnancy weight so soon?!
You are such an adorable darling. If I put some chips in my mouth and come close to you munching it 'kurum kurum', you smile, make a funny face and pinch and hit my sound making mouth! You keep talking "ba ba ba" through out the day, but as soon as someone comes home or we start a video chat, we immediately become quiet. People think that you are silent. You are talkative only in front of your mom and dad.
As soon as you find a pacifier, you now grab it and put it in your mouth the other way round and chew it. Even if I put it right, you take it off and put the other side in mouth to bite. I doubt that you are teething. You love to bite everything, even your dad's shoulder when he carries you and takes you out for a walk. I carry you on Kangaroo carry bag when we go for walks and you enjoy the view of trees. You know to clap on my hand now. You love to do "aane banthondu aane" as soon as you sit on my lap, your feet touching the ground. You like looking into the mirror and in our bathroom, you can see three reflections at a time. It is a fun game you play everyday when we go for bath - you look at my face in one of those mirrors and wait till I look at you. As soon as I see you in that mirror, you smile and look into some other mirror and wait for me to look there. You don't keep changing the mirrors in the same order, you try to confuse me! Funny baby!!! :)
You now know to play "aane banthondaane" and "Thaiya thaiya thaiya" dance. The first grain you ate was brown rice in the form of cereal. The first vegetable you ate was sweet potato - nicely cooked and mashed. The first fruit you ate was plum - cooked and mashed. Plum was slightly sour and you liked the taste of it and you kept bending towards the spoon to have more!
